The countdown is on and we’re so excited to have you join us for our big day in Mauritius!
After Shaun proposed on the banks of the Zambezi River back on November 8, 2023, we knew our hearts were set on celebrating our union close to our roots. While Africa tugged immensely at our hearts, having always been a part of us, logistically, it was a bit of a puzzle.
Enter Mauritius. It’s technically an ‘African’ island and is where Nicolle spent 30 beautiful years of her life. We decided it was the perfect slice of paradise to gather all our favourite people from around the world in one central-ish spot!
We know it’s a big ask to travel to a destination wedding, so we’ve put together this website to make your journey as smooth as can be. Here, you’ll find all you need to know about our special day and this stunning paradise island that we can’t wait to share with you.
Thanks so much for boarding this flight to celebration with us. We can’t wait to add this beautiful chapter to our story with you by our side.

Wedding Day
Our wedding will unfold at the exquisite Sugar Beach Hotel in Flic en Flac, nestled along the picturesque West Coast of Mauritius. This 5-star venue, embodying island chic with its elegant colonial architecture, palm-fringed beaches, sparkling, crystal-clear lagoon, and backdrop of Le Morne mountain, perfectly captures the essence of our dream wedding.
As our celebration is held within a hotel close to guest rooms, we kindly note that our wedding festivities need to conclude promptly at 11 PM.

We’d love for you to join us on Saturday, 10th May, for a catamaran day trip – one of the best and most festive ways to see the island!
This will be a great chance to share stories of favourite wedding moments and enjoy a final celebration before we all head back to our corners of the world. Kids are most welcome!

Travel Information
Here’s everything you need to make your trip to Mauritius as easy as possible:
Dates
To fully enjoy the festivities and the island itself, we advise arriving several days before the wedding. This will give you time to adjust to the time zone, acclimate to the tropics, and explore the unreal surroundings of Mauritius.
We’ll be on the island from approximately 30th April to 11th May.
Flights
While there are various airlines and routes to choose from, for the quickest and most straightforward journey to Mauritius, we recommend taking direct flights available from South Africa, Australia (Perth), and the UK via Air Mauritius.
Air Mauritius has informed me that the best prices for April/May tickets will be available in January/February.
FUN FACT: Air Mauritius sometimes sells very competitively priced business class upgrades at the Airport if you feel like indulging in a last minute ‘treat yo’self’.
Visas
Good news! You can visit Mauritius without a visa for up to 60 days.
Accommodation
To be at the heart of the wedding action and enjoy one of the best beaches and hospitality the island has to offer, we highly recommend staying at Sugar Beach. It’s ideally located for sightseeing, and an absolute paradise for families too, with outstanding facilities for children.
We’ve secured group booking rates for wedding guests who wish to stay at Sugar Beach, which you can view and take advantage of by completing the form below. Upon completion, our wedding coordinator will be in touch with you.
Recommended Areas for Proximity to the Wedding
Should you decide to not stay at Sugar Beach, here are some suggestions of local regions you may choose to stay in to be in proximity to the wedding venue:
- Flic en Flac: Anywhere you stay in this area will be around 5 to 10 minutes from the wedding venue.
- Tamarin & Black River: About 30 minutes away from the wedding venue.
- Le Morne: Roughly 50 minutes from the wedding venue.
Other Areas
While these regions are a bit further from the wedding venue, they are wonderful places to experience more of Mauritius:
- Grand Bay: North Coast, approximately 1 hour 15 minutes from the wedding venue.
- Trou d'Eau Douce: East Coast, about 1 hour 20 minutes away from the wedding venue.

Transportation
Mauritius doesn’t have Uber, nor a very formal public transport system, and while taxis are relatively easy to catch during the day, be aware that tourists may (will) face higher rates.
At night, taxis are less readily available and typically need to be pre-arranged. Please consider this when planning your transportation to and from the wedding, if you’re not staying at Sugar Beach.

The island features many scenic drives and boasts excellent roads, making self-driving a fantastic option for exploring at your own pace. Renting a car gives you the freedom to move around the island at your convenience without the need to constantly find a ride and negotiate fees.
Renting a car
Most major car hire companies are available in Mauritius and can be booked online.
For a more local car hire experience, (expect verbal agreements and things working on a trust basis), we highly recommend Hosram Car Rental Mauritius, a service we have used personally and were very satisfied with.
Wedding guests can enjoy a 10% discount with this company by mentioning the promo code ‘NicolleWedsShaun’
